Both Senior Practitioners have undergone post-graduate psychotherapy training with the Metanoia Institute in London.
The training which is part time, takes at least four years to complete, is recognised by Middlesex University and leads to registration with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
Throughout their training both practitioners were required to attend regular clinical supervision, complete a psychiatric placement and undergo personal psychotherapy.
In order to qualify they had to submit a dissertation and pass an oral examination. Metanoia trains clinicians to a high standard and stresses the importance of attending to the relationship between theory, practice and research both as trainees and as qualified practitioners.
The length and depth of training undertaken supports them in working with the deep seated problems that clients often bring to therapy.
Indeed, psychotherapy is often the ‘treatment of choice’ for exploring the fixed emotional, behavioural and relational patterns which frequently have their roots in childhood neglect and abuse. Psychotherapists are trained to establish and gradually build a relationship with a client that supports the exploration of painful emotions and experiences.
Ultimately the therapeutic process helps the client gain an increased capacity for choice.
